Soapstone Nativities from Kenya have arrived just in time for Christmas! Aren't they beautiful? Each set has twelve pieces which includes baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, three wise men, two shepherds, an ox, a sheep, a donkey, and an angel. These are carved by so each set will look a bit different and is not identical to the picture. The coloring of each dome varies. However, every set is absolutely beautiful.

What is soapstone?

Soapstone is a metamorphic rock consisting mostly of the mineral talc. It is a relatively soft stone, a calcium carbonate.

As the talc in soapstone is soft to the touch, it gives you the smooth feeling of rubbing a piece of dry soap. Thus, the name was derived as “soap” stone.
