Small strips of paper are carefully rolled up, dyed, dried, and strung together to create these beautiful necklaces. To achieve the bright coloring seen in every bead, the widows in Uganda dip the beads into a dye of their choice and let it dry. They must repeat this dyeing and drying process seven times over. The women then string up clothing lines all around their villages and hang up the paper beads to dry.
Once the beads are dried, rings of beads are created in five complementary colors. These rings are strung together on a glass bead necklace, creating these beautiful accessories.
